Sri Lanka’s largest beach resort is only 15 minutes from the Airport. If you dislike long transfers, this is the best option for a beach stay in Sri Lanka.
The main resort area lies to the north of town along Lewis Place, where lots of local restaurants, shops and bars alternate between beach hotels that are aimed at budget, 3 star and 5 star holidaymakers. Negombo therefore attracts a very cosmopolitan group of holidaymakers.
The resort contains a long, sandy beach that is very wide in places, ideal for beach games like volleyball. The sea is not very suitable for sea-bathing. Snorkelling and diving is possible on outer reefs from Nov – Apr.

Mount Lavinia is an ideal place to combine a beach holiday with visits to the capital city of Colombo. The city’s shopping malls are only about 20 minutes away. There is a little private beach next to the public beach which is popular during evenings and weekends. Sea swimming is not recommended.

Wadduwa and Kalutara have developed as resort areas due to their relative ease of access to Colombo Airport. The transfers usually take between 2 and 2.5 hours depending on Colombo traffic.
A string of 3, 4 and 5 star resort hotels line the beaches to the south of Colombo. At the northern end, Wadduwa is the closest to the capital with Kalutara to the south, a beautiful location where the Kalu Ganga River estuary meets the Indian Ocean in a huge lagoon.
The beaches are long and straight with lots of coconut palms and a thickly popu lated coastline of fishing villages and market towns.

The capital city of Colombo is only a 1.5 hour taxi ride away, and is an ideal location for shopping and dining. Shops such as ODEL and House Of Fashion stock a large range of incedibly cheap fashion items and clothing.
The interior has lush landscapes that lead to the massive Sinharaja Rainforest, one of the most important bio-diversity spots on earth!
With an early morning departure you can get to Kithulgala, the island’s finest White Water Rafting destination for easy Grade 2 / 3 rafting.
