• The Mount Lavinia Hotel has its own ‘private’ beach in front of the property. The public beach is very popular with Colombo’s population especially on weekends and holidays. There are lifeguards here but strong sea currents mean that caution has to be exercised when swimming in the sea.

• The interesting royal capital of Kandy is about 5 hours away (stopover night required).
• An amazing drive on the South Coast Road takes you along some of the world’s most beautiful beaches to the colonial heritage town of Galle (stopover night required).
• Travel up in to the Hill Country passing tea gardens and waterfalls to reach the legendary
colonial Hill Station of Nuwara Eliya at 6000 ft above sea level (stopover night required).

In A Nutshell:
A stay at The Mount Lavinia Hotel is recommended if you wish to be close to the capital city of Colombo. You can also take advantage of major road connections to go on trips to the old royal capital of Kandy, or to the beautiful tea covered Hill Country and the picture-postcard Southern Beaches of the island. The Airport transfer time is also bearable (1 hour). As one of the most famous colonial era hotels in the world, it is not be missed by anyone who wishes to sample the taste and ambience of the British Raj.

Tips:You need to stay in the Bay Wing Rooms to be comfortable. The hotel’s Standard Rooms (Sea And Garden Wing) are NOT of a 5 Star level.
