The Beach At Koggala

• Koggala lies to the west of Galle, along the South Coast Road. The area is famous for its Stilt Fishermen who sometimes can be seen right in front of the hotel itself. There are lovely bathing pools among rocks and idyllic stretches of beach near the hotel. Scuba diving and diving trips to nearby reefs and offshore shipwrecks are possible with a local PADI-certified dive operator.

• There are beautiful beaches along the South Coast Road including the reef protected bay   at Unawatuna, the secret beach at Mirissa and wild deserted beaches at Tangalle.
• Nature lovers can travel to the luxuriant tropical Sinharaja Rainforest, where you can go   on treks with Forest Dept guides to observe huge trees, creepers and wild orchids.
• Mirissa is one of the best locations in the world for Whale Watching, which is possible   between December and April of each year.
• There are some little visited temples in villages nearby with exquisite ancient frescoes and   sculptures including the Kataluwa Temple at Koggala.

Stopover Excursions And Mini Tours
• The Yala National Park is the best location in the world to see Leopards in the wild, as   well as monster Crocodiles and Sloth Bears (stopover night required)
• Uda Walawe National Park contains the largest herds of wild Elephants in Sri Lanka   and numerous sightings are guaranteed (stopover night required)

In A Nutshell:
The Fortress is basically the most in-demand super luxury beach resort in Sri Lanka. There is also little doubt that it is the best managed and most lavish 5 star beach hotel in the entire island. The cool looking retro mid-century décor is very tastefully done, the cuisine is glorious and sits up there with the best in Asia. The Deep South Beaches are simply stunning but consider a stopover night at Colombo on the way out or a seaplane taxi as the transfer takes at least 5 hours by road to Colombo Airport.

Tips: Families would do well to consider booking The Ocean Lofts with extra beds or even the 2 bedroom Fortress Residences. Better perhaps to resist any temptation to order the Fortress Aquamarine, which at USD 14500 is the most expensive dessert in the world!!

• Fortress Rooms
The Fortress Rooms feature a super king bed dressed in Egyptian cotton and an open plan bathroom with twin headed shower and bath. These rooms open out onto your own courtyard or garden balcony. In addition, all rooms present a cutting-edge entertainment system and designer fittings that include plasma screen, Bose DVD player and sound system, espresso machine, air-conditioning, overhead fan, private bar, day bed, in-room safe and IDD telephone.

• Beach Rooms
Located on the ground floor, these guestrooms offer views into the gardens, beach and the Indian Ocean beyond. Highlights of these rooms include the open plan bathroom with large bath, rainfall shower and a split-level living area.

Ocean Rooms are located on the upper floor and feature high vaulted ceilings. Guests also have the added bliss of enjoying a bath in the Jacuzzi whilst taking in the magnificent views.

• Ocean Lofts
The design of these split-level rooms creates one-of-a-kind experiences on each of their two separate floors. Guests enter into an oversized living room with indoor plunge pool, inviting day bed, 42" plasma screen and Bose DVD sound system. The upstairs level houses the bedroom, showcasing a luxury 7ft.x7ft. bed adorned in soft Egyptian cotton linen and an additional day bed. The stunning upstairs bathroom features both rainfall and wall showers.

• Fortress Residences
The ultimate in sensual living spaces, The Fortress Residences each feature two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a separate living area, entertainment area and outdoor dining deck.
