The Beach At Uppuveli

• Uppuveli and Nilaveli can lay claim to the best beaches in Sri Lanka. Uppuveli is a continuation of fine white coral sand of Nilaveli to the north, and is easily one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Asia. Uppuveli is at its best from April to October. The sea at Uppuveli is particularly suited for water sports such as wind surfing, canoeing and wakeboarding.

The Swami Rock Temple is located on top of a steep cliff above Trincomalee Bay with magnificent views in all directions.

Some of the best Whale Watching in the world is possible at Trincomalee Bay with frequent sightings of huge Blue Whales, Bryde's Whales and Sperm Whales.

Chaaya Blu is the most luxurious hotel at on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. It is rated 4 star, but perhaps viewed better as a good 3 star plus. Visitors come to the East Coast not for luxury but to experience the fine powder-white beach and swim in the clear blue sea where you can wade out for hundreds of feet in safety. It’s the nearest that Sri Lanka comes to the Maldives!

Tips: The Beach Chalets are located virtually on the beach itself – a rarity in Sri Lanka. Pigeon Island is best visited early in the morning before large crowds of local tourists arrive.
