Two Centre Holiday
Wildlife And Sri Lanka’s Beaches
Sri Lanka's Wildlife And Tropical
Beaches
Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park is one of the great wildlife reserves of Asia. It has the most varied collection of wildlife in the island in numerous habitats and stunning natural scenery.
After a stopover night at Colombo, the journey to Yala also gives you an opportunity to stop at the wonderful Baby Elephant Orphanage at Uda Walawe. Yala is situated in the pretty locality of Tissamaharama (Tissa) with numerous remains of an important ancient kingdom.
Apart from the fabulous wildlife, you can explore little visited but very interesting temples and cultural centres in the area such as the shrine at Kataragama.
The beach resorts of Sri Lanka are easily reached on the South Coast Road from Yala to Colombo. These include the more remote Deep South Beaches as well as the popular resort towns of the South West Coast.
Recommended For: Anyone wishing to
experience Sri Lanka’s wildlife combined with a beach stay.

Yala
The Transit Camp For Baby Elephants
The Uda Walawe Sanctuary lies on the way from Colombo to Yala. Next to it is a Transit Centre which specialises in the release of orphaned baby elephants back to the wild. Some 13 baby elephants are presently handled by this centre. You can see the highly absorbing sight of bottle-feeding of the young elephants at 12 O clock feeding time.
Day 04
Yala
Yala National Park – Private Pm Jeep Safari The jewel among Sri Lanka’s wildlife reserves and one of Asia’s premier sanctuaries is justifiably famous for its population of Leopards that can easily be observed hunting and lazing around during daylight hours.
The island’s big cat is attracted by the presence of large herds of Spotted Deer, Sambar (Elk) and Wild Boar that comprise its staple diet.
Apart from the wildlife, the spectacular landscapes at Yala consist of strange shaped rock outcrops that are the ideal habitat of the aggressive Sloth Bear and a coastline dotted with beautiful lagoons harbouring migratory flamingoes and ferocious Marsh Crocodiles.
Around 100 Elephants are also found in and around the park. Today there are said to be 18 to 20 ‘tuskers’ in the reserve, including one huge ‘cross-tusker’. The best time to see Elephants is between January and May.
Day 05
Yala
Yala National Park – Private Am Jeep Safari
Yala has beautiful rocky landscapes that are the ideal terrain for Leopard encounters at places such as the aptly named Leopard Rock. The frequent sightings of this usually elusive ‘big cat’ has made Yala probably the best location in the world to observe Leopards in the wild.
Some 125 bird species have been recorded.
Raptors include the Crested Serpent Eagle, and White Bellied Sea Eagle. Water birds include the Lesser Flamingo and the rare Black-Necked Stork. During the north-east monsoon the lagoons are visited by thousands of migrating waterfowl such as the White Winged Black Tern and the Pintail.
Day 06
Yala
Kirinda
A very pretty temple on rocks overlooking the Indian Ocean giving impressive views of the Yala jungles and rugged shoreline stretching for many miles.
The Kataragama Shrine
This most ancient pilgrim site is Sri Lanka’s most important pilgrim destination. The main temple called Kataragama Devale is in fact a very modest building, where long lines of devotees offer ‘’pooja’’ baskets filled with fruit to obtain blessings. The nearby Kiri Vehera stupa is probably the most beautiful in the island, kept spotless with a coat of milk white paint. In the evenings the surroundings are illuminated with thousands of oil lamps and the atmosphere is simply wonderful.

The Old World Town Of Galle
